Libya and Waco

So US thinks that it should bomb countries that use force against the citizens. How would our people have reacted if other countries decided to drop bombs on us after Waco or Ruby Ridge? I also heard that Obama is saying that he did not need to consult with congress before taking the action because it is not was as there is no ground invasion. If a ground invasion is what makes it war, did the 9/11 hijackers not launch a war with running plans into the twin towers or did the Japanese not start war with the bombing of Pearl Harbor?

Redistribution of wealth

Is it my imagination or are the same people that oppose redistributing wealth from rich to poor object because it is socialism, favor redistribution of wealth from poor to rich because it is “the capitalist way”.

Invasion of Libya

I am not a fan of any dictator who is willing to kill his people, but should we be involved in Libya? How would the US have dealt with foreign countries supporting the rebels in our civil war?

Politician compensation

One common sense approach to reducing the government budget might be to have politicians earn only what the average of the citizens that they represent earn. That might provide the incentive that some of them need to try to make the lives of “the average Joe’ better. If all people were counted and those who were unemployed were tallied in with a zero income, perhaps that would put an end to some politicians saying that if some people lose their jobs “So be it”.

cutting the deficit.

A common sense approach to reducing the deficit might be for everyone who is really concerned about the government deficit to allow the government to keep whatever tax refund they may have been due.. Rather than wanting everyone else to give up something in order to close the budget gaps, let each person give all that they can.

Origin of Empathy test

I first started thinking in terms of an empathy test for policies a few years ago when our government was trying to dictate to Iran about nuclear weapons. Let me state clearly that I am not in favor of a nuclear Iran. But was threatening them the right way to go? I thought about how US citizen would have reacted if a foreign government had told us to stop the Manhattan project. I suspect that we would have reacted defiantly. Why were we surprised when Iran reacted that way?
